She was born on the 14th of June 2002 in Cotonou, to Nigerian parents from Kwara State and was raised in Lagos State.

Ayra Starr attended her tertial institution in Cotonou, Benin, at Les Cours Sonou University and graduated with a BA degree in international relations and political science.

Her passion for music came at the age of 10 during her secondary school time when she use to sing in a high school choir, and from there, she began writing songs with her brother.

At the age of 16, She started as a fashion model with a popular model company called Quove Model Management.
